 1.1 What is ruminant?

An animal such as cow or sheep that has more than one stomach and that swallows food and then brings it back up again to continue chewing it. Grazing animals have multiple compartment within the stomach and regurgitate their food to chew it again for its nutritional value.

Ruminants are herbivore mammals that process plant food in a multi chambered stomach including one that ferments the plants via microbial action.
